How philosophy can help you find the information that you really need

Abstract:
How do we know when some information is relevant? In this lecture, I will
introduce the general debate on informational relevancy in a variety of
contexts (including search engines, information retrieval, online
advertising, juridical procedures, everyday information processes,
medical diagnosis, and scientific experiments). I will then present a
general theory of relevant information and show it to provide a
satisfactory answer to the initial question.
Date: Thursday, February 8th, 2007
Time: Reception at 5:30pm, Lecture at 6:30pm
Location: Room 205 Swede Johnson (1111 N. Cherry Ave.)
