Dr. P. Bryan Heidorn will join SIRLS in October 2009.
Dr. Heidorn has been a member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 1995. For the last two years he has served as a program manager of the Division of Biological Infrastructure at the National Science Foundation.
He holds a B.S. in Psychobiology, and M.S. in Information Science, and a Ph.D. in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh.
His research area includes natural language processing, text mining for metadata, and information retrieval particularly in biodiversity literature and museum informatics.
With a long list of grant and contract awards and a strong list of publications in both librarianship and information science, Dr. Heidorn is well poised to lead the School of Information Resources and Library Science at the University of Arizona in educating the next generation of librarians and information professionals.
